1. AI-Powered Features
Photo Insight and analysis: If you allow AI processing in the app, Nostalgia can send a downscaled copy of your photo to Anthropic Claude to analyze visible damage, likely restoration order, scene cues, and draft archival context. This powers Photo Insight, captions, stories, and date estimation.
Restoration: AI models repair damage, dust, scratches, and fading when you run a restoration workflow.
Colorization: AI models estimate historically plausible color for black-and-white photos. Results are artistic interpretations, not historical records.
Enhancement: AI models adjust contrast, sharpness, and detail to improve clarity while preserving original character.
Face detection: AI detects the number and position of faces in each photo to guide face-specific restoration. We do not perform facial recognition (identifying who a person is) automatically. Person-to-photo linking is manual and user-initiated.
Captions and stories: AI generates text descriptions and narrative captions for your photos when you request them.
Date estimation: AI estimates the decade a photo was taken based on visual cues like clothing, technology, and photo style.
Restoration workflows (restore, colorize, enhance, deblur, deglare, denoise, face enhance, background removal, animate) are initiated by you. Local scan analysis may run to support import guidance, but third-party AI analysis and generation require explicit in-app permission before we send data to Anthropic or Replicate.
2. How AI Processes Your Content
Photo Insight sends a downscaled copy of your photo to Anthropic for analysis after you allow AI processing in the app.
Restore, colorize, enhance, deblur, deglare, face enhance, background removal, and animate send your photo to Replicate only when you choose that tool after the same disclosure and permission flow.
If you decline AI processing, local viewing and editing tools such as crop, adjust, save, and export remain available.
Your photos are transmitted to our secure inference infrastructure for processing. Outputs are returned to your account and are not made available to other users.
AI processing is performed on cloud infrastructure operated by or on behalf of Nostalgia. We use Replicate (United States) for restoration and Anthropic (United States) for vision analysis and captions, both under data processing agreements.
Processed results are approximate. AI restoration is a best-effort reconstruction and may introduce artifacts, inaccuracies, or interpretations that differ from the original scene.
3. Default Improvement Uses
By default, Nostalgia may improve analysis quality, routing quality, workflow reliability, and safety controls using non-content telemetry such as scan analysis, route outcomes, retries, ratings, exports, and aggregate usage patterns.
These default product-improvement uses do not include training or fine-tuning AI models on your uploaded photos or restoration outputs.
We do not treat family-photo content as anonymous merely because direct identifiers are removed.
4. Optional Content Donation / Opt-In Uses
If we ever introduce a program that uses actual uploaded photos or restoration outputs for benchmarking, evaluation, training, or fine-tuning, it will require separate, explicit opt-in consent.
That consent will not be bundled with basic account creation or standard restoration use, and declining it will not block access to the core service.
We will describe the purpose of any such program clearly, including whether content may be used for benchmark evaluation, model comparison, or model improvement.
5. Accuracy, Limitations, and Human Oversight
AI-generated outputs are tools, not authoritative records. Colorization results are estimations and should not be represented as factually accurate historical documents.
We recommend reviewing restoration outputs before using them in archival, publication, or professional contexts.
You retain the ability to export your original, unmodified photo at any time.
Nostalgia does not use AI to make automated decisions about user accounts, subscriptions, or access without human review for material decisions.
6. Prohibited AI Uses
You may not use Nostalgia's AI features to create, modify, or distribute content that is deceptive, defamatory, or violates the rights or dignity of individuals.
You may not use our AI features to generate non-consensual intimate imagery.
You may not attempt to manipulate, probe, or extract our AI models through adversarial inputs.
7. Third-Party AI Disclosure
Certain AI capabilities within Nostalgia are powered by third-party model providers. We name those providers in the app before use, explain what photo data is sent, explain why it is sent, and ask for your permission before that third-party processing starts.
Anthropic is used for Photo Insight, captions, stories, and date estimation. Replicate is used for restore, colorize, enhance, deblur, deglare, face enhance, background removal, and animate.
When we use third-party AI infrastructure, we ensure data is processed under appropriate data processing agreements and is not used to train those providers' general models.
We will update this policy if our AI provider arrangements change materially.
8. Feedback and Concerns
If you receive an AI output that appears harmful, inaccurate, or inappropriate, please report it through the Support page at getnostalgia.ai/support with the request ID and a description of the concern.
We review reported outputs to improve safety controls.
